SACAA was appointed by the Department of Environmental Affairs to manage the Ash Phakisa Initiatives, an accelerated program aimed at increasing the beneficial use of coal ash in South Africa. The initiative brought together industry, government, and regulators to address barriers, develop technical standards, and create market opportunities for ash as a valuable resource rather than a waste product.
